Barclays Bank Moçambique, part of the global Barclays Group, is one of the largest banks in Moçambique offering retail banking, debit & credit cards, insurance, commercial banking, investment banking as well as wealth management products and services.
Employing more than 1000 people, Barclays Bank Moçambique serves more than 408419 customers and across the country through a network of more than 92 ATMs and 59 branches as at January 2009.
Barclays Bank Moçambique is the successor to Banco Austral (BAu) whose 80 % controlling stake was acquired by South Africa’s leading bank Absa in January 2002. In July 2005 Barclays Bank PLC acquired a 58.8 % majority stake in Absa. Management took time to consider the future of the bank within the Absa and Barclays groups and subsequently re-branded the bank Barclays Bank Moçambique in December 2007.
Today, Barclays Bank Moçambique is the fourth largest bank in the country.
