Barclays settles in Inhaca Island

On August 8, 2008, Barclays officially opened the first branch in Inhaca Island. The opening ceremony commenced with a traditional ritual performed by the local traditional leaders. This traditional ritual is normally done to bless the business and to let the community know that we respect the traditional norms of the island.

The Mayor of Maputo, Your Excellency Dr. Eneas da Conceicao Comiche, cut the ribbon and officially opened the branch in the presence of Barclay’s representatives and local authorities of Inhaca. This was followed by speeches and cocktail function at the Pestana Inhaca Lodge. Barclays was proud to announce that this was one of Barclays First, as the bank was the first one to open in the Island. The media was also invited to witness and cover the event. The local government authorities reported that the community of Inhaca found the opening of a bank in the island is a hope that will attract more investment in the island and that in turn will create jobs and development of the island.
