Make a Difference Day
As part of our SCR initiative, ''Voluntary Projects'', on 16 May 2009, BBM employees from Maxixe branch spent the day at a centre called PROLIR, teaching painting, sewing and designing. Participating volunteers at the event were members from PROLIR centre, members from 2 Secondary Schools and community members from local community nearby the centre.
The aim of Make a Difference Day is to encourage people to give their time, not their money, to get involved in volunteering and have an impact on the local community. It is not about making donations or fundraising.
The campaign is open to the general public and all employers, who are encouraged to get their employees involved.
We use the campaign to encourage volunteering among colleagues: employee engagement is at the core of Barclays community investment programme.
We know colleague involvement delivers a three-way win:
§ Charities and community organisations we work with tell us that they have access to skills, knowledge and resources that they otherwise wouldn’t have. Our volunteers are delivering a real and lasting difference to the communities we serve.
§ Colleagues tell us they feel more proud to work for Barclays that they develop skills, benefit from new experiences and, importantly, enjoy getting involved.
§ Barclays benefits by having more engaged and skilled employees and our support enhances our reputation among stakeholders by demonstrating that we are a responsible organisation
