Barclays Mozambique Appoints Rui Barros as New Chief Executive Officer

Barclays Bank Moçambique, SA announced the appointment of Rui Manuel Barros as Managing Director, with effect from September 9, 2014

Rui Barros joins Barclays Moçambique from Standard Bank Mozambique where he most recently held the position of Director of Risk Management. He brings with him a long experience in the financial area, having previously held the position of Director of Risk in Atlantic Europe, the Portuguese operational part of the Angolan Banking group with the same name.

Rui Barros was a Credit Analyst at Fitch Ratings before being appointed as Director of Structured Finance at Lehman Brothers' European offices.

The new Chief Executive Officer holds a degree in Economics from UTAD (University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro) and a Master's degree in Finance from Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He studied at Arizona State University in the United States of America.

Commenting on her appointment, Barclays Africa Executive Director Maria Ramos said: "Rui Barros's appointment comes at a time when the business is being repositioned for growth, thus re-emphasizing the importance of Barclays Bank Moçambique, SA in the
Barclays Group . "

Rui Barros will report to Mizinga Melu, the new Executive Director of Barclays Africa Regional Management.
